Sandeep Singh (born 27 February 1986) is an Indian professional field hockey player and an ex-captain of the Indian national team. He is generally featured as a fullback and is a penalty corner specialist for the team. Singh currently holds a DSP rank in the Haryana police. He is regarded as one of the best drag-flickers of the game. He received the prestigious Arjuna award from the Indian government.
On 22 August 2006, Singh was seriously injured after being hit by an accidental gunshot in the Shatabadi train, while on his way to join the national team, due to leave for the world cup in Germany two days later. He was almost paralyzed and on a wheelchair for two years of his life. But, the determined Sandeep not only recovered but also established himself back into the national team. In 2009, Sandeep became the captain of the Indian national team. Under his captaincy, the Indian team won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2009. India won that title after 13 long years. Sandeep was also the top goal scorer of the tournament. A truly inspirational person, who never gave up on his dream and kept trying and fighting against all odds in life.
